Walkstation Concept

65% of Americans are considered overweight. Our culture of sitting in front of the TV, sitting while commuting to and from work and then sitting throughout the day leaves little opportunity to burn the calories necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Details, a Steelcase Inc. company, has created a concept that brings the benefits of walking to the typical office workday. In conjunction with C10 consultancy and Architect Bob Bazemore, Details created the Walkstation, a piece of office furniture that allows the user to accomplish the work normally done while seated, but at a constant moderate walking pace. Walking at speeds 2 mph or lower, the Walkstation allows you to burn calories and feel more energetic without breaking a sweat, or raising your heart rate.

The concept includes user controlled lights and speakers that are housed in the side panels of the overhead transom. An integrated electric height-adjustable table creates a sturdy platform to comfortably accomplishing your work. Privacy screens sit atop a raised platform which encourages collaboration between co-workers.
